Meet Hanify & King’s Newest Associates

With three new associates, Sara Hirshon, Natalie Sawyer, and Margaret “Maggie” Carleen, Hanify & King continues to ensure that its clients receive top quality legal services with an expanding base of highly-qualified young attorneys.

Sara Hirshon is an associate in our Business Litigation practice. She says her family was instrumental in her becoming an attorney, “I grew up in a family of lawyers, including my father and two uncles. They encouraged me at a young age to use my talents to help people less fortunate than myself and to be politically active.” As a United States Senate Page for Majority Leader George Mitchell in junior high and later living and working on Capitol Hill, she took this advice to heart. Ultimately, Sara chose to pursue litigation law based on her excellent ability to problem solve, saying, “You have to take the pieces and figure out how they fit together.” And, she chose to join Hanify & King because she feels we are comprised “of experienced and highly-regarded litigators who are also great people and role models.”

A graduate of Boston University’s Law School and the University of Michigan, Sara was an associate at Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen LLP, in Philadelphia prior to joining Hanify & King.

For Natalie Sawyer (formerly Wonk-Brink), being an attorney was her goal from a very young age. “Over the years I slowly narrowed down my field of interest and discovered in law school that I was best suited for financial law,” she says. She pursued this interest and obtained her LL.M. in banking and financial law. “Bankruptcy law is an environment that is a fascinating blend of corporate, financial and litigation work. What I find most appealing about bankruptcy law is its focus on practical solutions in difficult situations.” At Hanify & King, Natalie feels fortunate to have found a firm that has the close, collegial atmosphere of a small firm as well as the complex work and experienced mentors of a large firm.

Prior to joining Hanify & King, Natalie was a law clerk to the Honorable Henry J. Boroff for the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Massachusetts. She also served for a year as the research assistant to Professor Vik Khanna at the Boston University School of Law and as a law clerk at Redd, O’Reilly and Brett. Natalie received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Boston University with a minor in Business Administration and her J.D and LL.M. in Banking and Financial Law from the Boston University School of Law.

Finally, our most recent hire, Margaret “Maggie” Carleen, became a lawyer because of her intense “interest in the interplay between social issues and the legal system.” Maggie chose litigation law as her focus because it is “interesting and exciting –and basically a ‘stylized combat’, to use the words of one federal judge.” Maggie chose Hanify & King because of the firm’s excellent reputation and collegiality as well as its interesting and complex work. “The women and men here are regarded with excellence by their peers and will be great role models for me to further develop my legal skills.”

Before joining Hanify & King, Maggie was an associate at Melick, Porter & Shea, LLP. She also served as a law clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court. She received her Bachelor’s degree from McGill University with honors in English Literature and a minor in History. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude from Suffolk University Law School.

We welcome Sara, Natalie and Maggie to the Hanify & King team.
