Chris Morrison, an attorney for the Boston law firm Hanify and King, was recently elected to the Norwood School Committee for a three year term. Previously a District 5 Town Meeting Member, Morrison finished first in voting among five candidates for the position.

As a member of the School Committee, Morrison’s responsibilities will include setting policy, negotiating with various collective bargaining units, drafting and managing the budget, and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Norwood Public Schools. He will also be one of two School Committee members on a special committee established by the Town Meeting in Norwood which will study the need and potential funding mechanisms for expansion and possible renovation at the high school and middle school.

“As a former teacher and parent, I was anxious to become more involved with school-related issues while I was a Town Meeting member,” Morrison stated. “I am excited for the opportunity to become more proactive in the process of both evaluating the current status of the Norwood School System as well as making improvements that will benefit our children as well as our community collectively.”

Morrison has worked with children and adults with disabilities for more than 15 years. He began this work at the Pine Tree Camp for Handicapped Children and Adults, where he rose to the position of Program Director during his 10 years there. He attended Boston College, majoring in Elementary and Intensive Special Needs Education, and went on to teach at elementary schools in the Fairfield, Maine and Newton, Massachusetts public schools. He holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Boston College. At Hanify and King, Morrison specializes in Business Litigation and has represented several Massachusetts school districts.

Morrison lives in Norwood with his wife, Allison King, a middle school teacher, and their two young daughters, Rebekah and Rachael. The Morrisons are active members of Saint Timothy’s Parish in Norwood.
