Hanify & King, Professional Corporation announced today that associate Christopher M. Morrison has been appointed to the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee (MHLAC) by the Supreme Judicial Court. The MHLAC is comprised of 14 judges and lawyers who are well versed in mental health law. Morrison worked with the MHLAC while attending Boston College Law School as a summer associate.

“It is an honor to be appointed to the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee. I look forward to working with members of the committee on the important mission of ensuring that the rights of the mentally disabled are protected and recognized,” said Morrison.

The Massachusetts legislature established the MHLAC in 1973 to secure and protect the legal rights of persons involved in mental health and retardation programs in the state. Since that time, the committee has represented individuals, families and associations of people involved in the mental health system. MHLAC has also been an advocate for those who have experienced denial of access to community-based care and discrimination. In addition, the committee has engaged in the legislative process to advance the rights of these individuals, and also worked to ensure that services are being delivered appropriately to them as well.

At Hanify & King, Attorney Morrison focuses on complex civil litigation at the trial and appellate level and has substantive experience representing small and mid-sized companies in complicated business disputes. He is a graduate of Boston College with a bachelor of arts, cum laude and has a juris doctorate degree from Boston College Law School, summa cum laude. Morrison also holds a master’s of education degree from Boston College.

Morrison serves on the Norwood School Committee and co-chairs the town-wide School Facilities Task Force. He is a trustee of Massachusetts Bay Community College.
