Hanify & King Opens New Office in New York

Boston – (October 1, 2008) – Hanify & King, Professional Corporation today announced the opening of its New York City office. The new office, located at 1359 Broadway, will support Hanify & King’s New York based clients and facilitate growth of the firm’s practice in complex litigation.

Paul R. Niehaus will serve as resident counsel and direct the firm’s practice in New York. Niehaus is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Chicago Law School. His experience has been focused on commercial and appellate litigation, and federal securities laws and investigations.

Existing lawyers in the firm, also members of the New York bar, will support the New York office, including James C. King, David L. Evans, Jonathan O’Brien, and Chadwick A. Jackson.

King is President and co-founder of Hanify & King and a member of the Corporate and Finance group. Among his responsibilities at the firm, King is counsel to commercial enterprises and merchant banks in the areas of finance, capital formation, fiduciary and other duties among investors and entrepreneurs, the protection of intellectual property rights and international business arrangements. In addition, King is counsel to a diverse group of commercial clients in the areas of securities, trade regulation, licensing, intellectual property litigation, and corporate finance. He is regional litigation counsel for several alcoholic beverage suppliers, the largest golf products company in the world, and several national and international consumer products companies. King assists clients in the organization, finance, and governance of bio-tech and telecommunication enterprises and not-for-profit foundations.

Evans is a shareholder at Hanify & King and has represented large public corporations, closely held companies and individuals in the resolution of complex business disputes for over 20 years. He has worked in a variety of settings for his clients including federal and state court, arbitration, mediation, and administrative agencies. He has litigated precedent-setting cases in areas such as leveraged buyouts, computer law, unfair trade practices and licensing. Additionally, Evans is a certified neutral arbitrator and mediator, having served in more than 150 cases and presiding over a broad range of business disputes. He is a member of a number of arbitration panels, including the Commercial and Large, Complex Case Panels of the American Arbitration Association.

O'Brien is an associate at Hanify & King who began his legal career as an associate at Salans in Paris, working on cross border mergers and acquisitions and corporate law. While in Paris, Mr. O'Brien became an Avocat à la Cour after successfully taking the Paris bar exam. He moved to New York City in 2004 and joined the litigation department at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP where he was seconded by the firm to an international bank to assist in its defense during a Congressional inquiry. Following completion of the inquiry, O'Brien joined a boutique practice in New York City focused on international business and entertainment transactions, representing artists and businesses in creative industries.

Jackson is senior counsel and represents clients in preparing and prosecuting patent applications; rendering opinions on the issues of patent infringement and validity; performing due diligence, including conducting patentability, product clearance, validity and prior art searches; drafting license agreements, including software license agreements and distribution agreements; developing and enforcing patent portfolios; and advising clients on trademark and copyright matters. He also litigates intellectual property issues, including preparation of briefs, pleadings, discovery requests, interrogatories and subpoenas.

In addition to the firm’s commercial and financial litigation practice, the firm maintains an office in Washington D.C. which serves as the focus of its intellectual property practice, including patent litigation.
