Following a screening of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" Professor Rick Murray, Ph.D and Undersecretary of Energy Ann Berwick lead a lively discussion on this timely topic.

Our two speakers for the event:

Richard W. Murray, Ph.D. Professor of Earth Sciences Director, Boston University Marine Program

Rick Murray is a Professor of Earth Sciences at Boston University (BU), where he has been teaching since 1992. His research interests are in marine geochemistry, with an emphasis on marine sedimentary records of glacial and interglacial climate. He has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific research papers, and his work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Ocean Drilling Program, the U. S. Geological Survey, and other agencies. A Fellow of the Geological Society of America and a Trustee of the Sea Education Association (Woods Hole), Murray is also the Director of the Boston University Marine Program.

Ann Berwick Undersecretary of Energy to Governor Deval Patrick

Ann Berwick grew up in Providence and attended Radcliffe College and the University of Wisconsin Law School. She worked as a legal services attorney in Seattle immediately after law school, and then as a partner in the litigation department at the Boston law firm Goulston & Storrs. She served as Chief of the Environmental Protection Division in the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office under Scott Harshbarger, where she also exercised joint oversight of the Massachusetts Environmental Strike Force.

From 1998-2006 Ann was a senior consultant at M.J. Bradley & Associates in Concord, Massachusetts. In that role, she has worked with the Clean Energy Group, a coalition of major electric generating and distribution companies that advocates for progressive positions on air pollution, energy, and climate policy. At M.J. Bradley & Associates Ann has also managed projects concerning air pollution and energy issues for other clients, including the National Association of Clean Air Agencies and the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management.

Ann is the Undersecretary for Energy in the Patrick Administration.

Ann lives in Newton with her husband, Don. She has four children, Ben, Dan, Jessica, and Becca.
