Experience
Mr. King is President and co-founder of Murphy & King and is a member of the Corporate and Finance group.
Mr. King began his practice in 1973 as an Attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel at the IRS. From 1974 to 1978, he served as a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and as Administrative Assistant to the National Commission for the Review of Antitrust Laws and Procedures. In 1979-1980, he was Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorneys for the Districts of Colorado and Massachusetts and was honored by the Department with its Outstanding Achievement Award.
From 1980 to the present, Mr. King has participated in the firm’s practice development and growth in commercial litigation and corporate finance, expertise and in overall firm management. During the last thirty years, Mr. King has been recognized for his practice expertise by various groups and organizations, including the Federal Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association and First Circuit Judicial Conference.
In 2006, Mr. King was recognized as one of the top 100 lawyers in Massachusetts and in 2008, Georgetown University Law Center recognized Mr. King for his many years of service to the Georgetown Law Human Rights Institute.
Representative Engagements
- Counsel to commercial enterprises and merchant banks in the areas of finance, capital formation, fiduciary and other duties among investors and entrepreneurs, the protection of intellectual property rights and international business arrangements.
- Counsel to a diverse group of commercial clients in the areas of antitrust, securities, trade regulation, licensing, intellectual property litigation, and corporate finance. Mr. King is regional litigation counsel for several alcoholic beverage suppliers, the largest golf products company in the world, and several national and international consumer products companies.
- Representation of merchant banks and venture funds in connection with investments in bio-tech, telecommunications and life science markets.
- Supervise commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution matters in the area of IP infringement, commercial litigation and trade regulation.

- Mr. King has lectured on antitrust, corporate finance, trade regulation, business fraud, and Lanham Act litigation. In the last several years, Mr. King presented a white paper on Liability of Lawyers in Crossborder Transactions and participated in various forums on issues affecting investments in intellectual property and bio-tech and telecom ventures. Mr. King is currently a candidate for the Democratic nomination to run for the U.S. Senate in 2012 through the Jim King for Senate Campaign Committee.
